Dave Matthews Band – DMB

Dave Matthews Band, also known as DMB, was formed in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1991. The Band’s founding members are singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Matthews, bassist Stefan Lessard, drummer/percussionist vocalist Carter Beauford, violinist Boyd Tinsley, and saxophonist LeRoi Moore. Moore died suddenly in August 2008 due to complications from an ATV accident. Horn player Jeff Coffin stepped in to play with Dave Matthews Band immediately following Leroi’s injuries, and has been with the band ever since. Additionally, Rashawn Ross (trumpet) and Tim Reynolds (guitar) are presently full-time touring members of Dave Matthews Band.

With great depth in diverse genres, Dave Matthews Band naturally creates an original sound by fusing their backgrounds. According to Soundscan, Dave Matthews Band’s music sales total over 30 million units.

Dave Matthews Band is known to have a massive following and perennial touring schedule, with a vibe reminiscent of that of the Grateful Dead. The band’s songs often become improvisational jam sessions.

After nearly twenty consecutive years of touring the Dave Matthews Band announced that they will be taking a hiatus from touring in 2011. Instead of a full tour, and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dave Matthews Band, the band scheduled four “Dave Matthews Band Caravan” festivals during the summer of 2011.
